Kristy Gazes Biography

Early childhood

Kristy Gazes was born in Torrance, California on October 28, 1967. At the age of 21, she used to go to Commerce Casino to play Pai Gow with her friends. But her poker knowledge from her father teased her to play poker at the Casino. Kristy gave 7-stud a shot. Her sportswoman spirit from being a swimming competitor in her teenage years made her want to play more poker and win. Before long, she used to come back to Commerce Casino to play poker several nights a week.

Early poker career

For the next ten years, Kristy would play mixed games of Stud Hi-low, Omaha Hi-low, Stud, Deuce to Seven, and Razz. She is dedicated to learning the card game, and the long hours she put on playing poker paid off. She played her first No-Limit Hold ‘em Tournament, and in 2003 Kristy won the 2003 World Championship of Online Poker Omaha Hi-low Split event. She finished fifth in the 2002 World Series of Poker before that. And in 2007, Kristy Gazes won the World Poker Tour Ladies Invitational.

Poker achievements

Kristy Gazes’ biggest achievements in poker include her win in the Wynn in Las Vegas playing the Full Tilt Poker Championship in 2005. She defeated Ted Forrest, Clonie Gowen, Gus Hansen, Chip Reese, and Daniel Negreanu, among others, in a game aired in real time on Fox Television. She went home with $250,000 as prize money. Recently, Kristy finished seventh during the 2007 Aussie Millions championship event. Kristy Gazes made over $910,000 throughout her career as a pro poker player.

Kristy’s personal opinion in the game of poker

When asked about her opinion on the Televisions’ bias on No Limit Holdem, Kristy used to say that it does not bother her. She does not believe that the attention given on No Limit Holdem does not affect poker negatively. In fact, it brings multitude of dedicated fans and it introduce poker into the world. However, she also said she would like to see the World Championship hold mixed games also.

Kristy holds high esteem to Daniel Negreanu because of his dedication and exceptional skills in playing tournaments and cash games. She also respects her No Limit Holdem mentor, Billy Duarte, and her ex-husband, Bill Gazes, for being among the best all around player in the world. She particularly respects and hails poker player who continuously hones their poker game skills throughout their career.

Present career

Now, Kristy Gazes is involved in the stock market owning a successful options trading business after her poker career. She still plays mixed poker every now and then to pass time and raise funds for charity.
